Dear Readers,
I work as a clerk at a gas station, and boy there is a lot of rants I could go on about that. But today, I'll stick to one. This is something that I myself am bad about, so don't think I'm just yelling to yell :D. More often then not the station I work at is really busy. So we see a lot of people every day. I'd say an average of 300 people in an 8 hour shift.
It was about half way through my shift that I realised something. I couldn't put a face to half the people that had walked in. The likely hood of me actually lifting my head to look at the person as I fill their order, get their cigarettes, or set their pumps, is next to nill. I mean, I say hello to everyone that walks through the doors (usually) and ask them how they are, but to actually look them in the face is.. well, rare. An internal voice (that sounded just like my mother) told me "You are so rude, look me in the eye when I'm talking to you". You all know the voice. When ever you are doing something that your parents used to get on to you about? Yeah.
So, I started to force myself to look at them when they walked in, greeting them the right way. When they came to my register, I made sure to look at their face. Ready for the kicker? I'd expect to have a few people not look me in the eye, but I found I wasn't the only one being rude! Only TWO of the customers that I waited on the remainder of the night... looked me in the face! I was dumbfounded.
So that's my rant for the day... and my new goal. Look people in the dang eyes already! Stop being rude!!!
Yours Truly,
